  • Opera Studio of Volksoper Vienna Artists

The Vienna Volksoper has made it its heart's project to keep music theater in all its facets alive, current, young and of the highest quality. In this project, the promotion of young artists must be an elementary component, because: The future begins today! Thanks to the generous support of the Christian Zeller Private Foundation, the establishment of an opera studio at the Volksoper was made possible for the 2022/2023 season. Six international singers and one pianist will be accompanied in this program for two years on their way between studies and professional life. They receive regular coaching, master classes, acting, dance and language lessons, workshops to prepare them for the special mental and physical challenges of everyday life as an artist, auditions, tools for their career management and, of course, the opportunity to take their first steps in their own Opera Studio productions, but also on the stage of the Volksoper.

But the creative power of the young studio members should also have the opportunity to unfold beyond this. The Opera Studio is a place where a lively and collective exploration of musical theater takes place. The individuality of each member thus flows directly into the results of the work, into the search for new forms of performance, venues and perspectives on music theater.

This wide-ranging offer of the opera studio is intended to give the participating artists the opportunity to grow personally. Vocally, professionally, musically, as actors, but also in terms of content and as human beings.

The Vienna Volksoper wants to make its contribution to the further development of a professional image and the genre of music theater with independent personalities.

  • Gregor Eisenhut Opera singer

Gregor Eisenhut began his musical training with the Vienna Boys' Choir, which he later continued at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in classical singing. The 27-year-old's versatility is evident in a broad repertoire ranging from classical opera roles such as Figaro (Le Nozze di Figaro, Mozart), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte, Mozart), Schaunard (La Boheme, Puccini), Dott. Malatesta (Don Pasquale, Donizetti) and Kezal (The Bartered Bride, Smetana) to concert literature, liturgical works and contemporary interpretations.

Eisenhut also became runner-up in the Heinrich Strecker Competition 2023 in the musical category and received the important Audience Award as well as the prize for the best interpretation of the „Viennese Lied“. As the winner of the Musica Juventutis competition, he performed a solo programme at the Vienna Konzerthaus in November 2022.

In addition to his musical career, the bass-baritone completed a degree in business administration. His upcoming projects include an engagement at the „Vereinigte Bühnen Bozen“ in northern Italy, where he will be seen in a production of „Die lustige Witwe“.

After graduating from school, he first studied philosophy with a focus on economics at the University of Vienna, then completed his Bachelor's degree in solo singing with distinction in the class of Yuly Khomenko at the MUK University in Vienna. In 2022 he switched to the classes of Angelika Kirchschlager and Peter Edelmann at the MDW university for his Master's degree.

He gained his first experience on large stages in 2022 as Cover in Monteverdi's Orfeo at the Vienna State Opera. Thilo Cubasch is also in great demand as an oratorio singer. He sang the solo parts in Schumann's „Der Rose Pilgerfahrt“, Saint-Saëns „Oratorio de Noël“ and Haydn's „Die Schöpfung“. At the side of renowned conductors such as Erwin Ortner and Alois Glaßner, further projects took him to Vienna's St. Stephen's Cathedral and the Schönbrunn Palace Theatre. As a „Lied Singer“ he showed himself with pieces by Brahms and Schumann at the Vienna Musikverein and performed alongside opera singer Daniela Fally and Peter Edelmann at the Lower Austrian Serenade Concerts last summer.

In the 2023/24 season he can be heard in the tenor role in Rossini's Petite Messe solennelle at Lügum Monastery as well as Hadersleben Cathedral in Denmark. He also has role debuts in Britten's Turn of the Screw as Quint and Fenton in Nicolai's The Merry Wives of Windsor.

From non-dancer to master dancer: Bernard Bach (born 1979) started his dancing career in 1998 at the Mühlsiegel dance school. But it was only in 2004 that he heard about the Stanek Dance School and the Vienna Rainbow Ball. For years he opened as a dancer on the committee under the guidance of dance master Wolfgang Stanek until he became his assistant. Since then he acted as a good soul and support at the dance rehearsals and as a choreographer. After training as a dance master (2013) and many balls later, he has now been leading the dance committee of the Rainbow Ball himself since 2017.

Bernard Bach has been master of ceremony on many other balls, not only in Vienna but also abroad.

DJane NicA

If you've had enough of monotonous beats and feet falling asleep, NicA is right there for you. A musical talent who has been sitting behind the piano since she was 6 years old now knows how to heat up the dance crowd with CD player & mixing desk.

Since 2010 she has been playing clubs such as Palais Auersperg, Volksgarten Säulenhalle, Elysium, Camera, Titanic, Rote Bar, Heart Club and many more, and since 2011 she has been the resident DJ of the successful LGBTIQ event series PiNKED.

In the summer of 2013, NicA's foreign booking series began with Palma de Mallorca, followed by Munich and Berlin, but you could also listen to her unique sound at the radio show FM4 - La Boum Deluxe. Austria's biggest charity event "Life Ball" subsequently booked the up-and-coming DJ for the Redcarpet and so she is also considered a regular act at Vienna Pride and most recently rocked EuroPride Vienna 2019.

But her journey is far from over...So stay tuned!

A-live Dance music

A-live play real, handmade music with a lot of joy and feeling, but without playbacks or computer support. Since 1998 - long before today's dance boom and "Dancing Stars" - the band has been a household name in the local dance scene for perfectly danceable music.

In addition to the classics that have been used for dance music for many decades, the band also plays current titles from the charts, which - carefully arranged - are also ideal for dancing. A-live's repertoire includes standard and Latin dances such as waltz, rumba, samba, tango, cha-cha-cha, jive, boogie, as well as soulful ballads, pop, disco and soul classics.

Motto: Real dance music for enthusiastic dancers and a diverse repertoire for the audience.

Desert Wind Lounge music

The band Desert Wind has been a permanent fixture at the Vienna Rainbow Ball since 2001. It started in the Sissi Bar and then moved on to the Winter Garden and the Austria-Hungary Hall. Desert Wind provides atmospheric entertainment with its jazzy arrangements, for listening, swinging and singing along. With Lisa Nielsen-Spieler, they have a singer of international stature on board, whose incomparable voice evokes goosebumps and comforting shivers. Despite the ball atmosphere, the compositions always include short improvisations, which are performed with great feeling by the two scene musicians Eric Lary (guitar) and Sandor Rigo (saxophone). The band forces the audience onto the dance floor with its rhythm section: Peter Mayrhofer on percussion and Wolfgang "Joe" Schirl on bass.
